Mission Statement:

To design, promote and execute opportunities for understanding and participating in the Global Mission of the ELCA

During the last 12 months:
Planned a Global Mission Festival for Nov. 8 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls

During the next 5 years:
Develop more ways to understand and participate in the Global Mission of the ELCA

During the next 12 months:
Develop a Global Mission Feature for the Star newsletter

Promote synodical Mission Trip


Glocal Mission Gathering
Connecting Global and Local

The Northeastern Iowa Synod hosted a Glocal Mission Gathering July 22-23, 2011, at Decorah Lutheran, Decorah, Iowa, with the theme Immigration and Migration. The event included networking, workshops, speakers, worship, music and guided discussions over meals from other cultures.

Global Mission Festival
Nov. 8, 2009

Lutheran outreach around the world showcased at Global Mission Festival

From Postville to China to the island of Madagascar, mission outreach projects from around the world were featured at the Global Mission Festival Nov. 8 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Sponsored by the Global Mission Workgroup of the Northeastern Iowa Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), festival featured presentations from ELCA missionaries and volunteers, displays hosted by area mission organizations, worship and music, and games for children. The day concluded with a global dinner. Keynote speaker was Rev. Rafael Padilla, executive director for the ELCA Division for Global Mission.

 


   

 
 

Programs:

ELCA Peace Not Walls
The campaign of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to learn, pray and act for peace with justice in the Holy Land. The 2005 ELCA Churchwide Assembly adopted this strategy to promote a peaceful solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to call for a halt to construction of the separation barrier and its removal from Palestinian land. www.elca.org/peacenotwalls

Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief works with partners in 50 countries to help people grow food, improve health, strengthen communities, end conflict, build livelihoods and recover from disasters. www.lwr.org

Lutheran World Federation
(LWF) is a global communion of Christian churches in the Lutheran tradition. Founded in 1947, the LWF now has 136 member churches in 76 countries representing 61.7 million of the world’s 65.4 million Lutherans. The LWF acts on behalf of its member churches in areas of common interest such as ecumenical relations, theology, humanitarian assistance, human rights, communication, and the various aspects of mission and development work. www.Lutheranworld.org 

Bread for the World
Bread for the World is a nationwide Christian citizen’s movement seeking justice for the world’s hungry people by lobbying our nation’s decision makers. Bread for the World seeks justice for hungry people by engaging in research and education on policies related to hunger and development.
