Spring Training Event

Buckmaster Room, Whitehouse Business Center Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa


The Home Life Work Group invited Christian education leaders, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, pastors, Youth and Family Ministry committee members and all others interested.


Agenda:
 The event started with a keynote address by Tammy Jones West, youth and family ministry coordinator for the North Carolina Synod and adjunct professor for religious studies at Lenoir Rhyne University in Lenoir Rhyne, North Carolina.


After lunch, workshops included:

  • Chris Bode - Bible Study for Parents

  • Karen Harthan - Resources, Where to Find Them, How to Use Them 

  • Teresa Baird - Grief 

  • LYO  Board - Youth and Bible Study

Registration: Cost to attend $15, with lunch on your own.

Family Ministry Swap Meets:
Four "Swap Meets" are planned during the 2009-10 school year to share educational resources through the Home Life Work Group's Christian Formation Network.

Sunday school teachers, youth and family ministers, pastors, parents and others interested in Christian formation can swap resources, ideas, experiences and crafts that can help pass on the faith to children of their home and congregation.

Each of the four meets focuses on a theme:

Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 -- First Lutheran, Cresco -- "Advent, Epiphany and Christmas"

Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010
-- St. John Lutheran, Nashua -- "Lent and Easter"

Thursday, April 8, 2010
-- Bethlehem Lutheran, Cedar Falls -- "Pentecost and VBS"

Friday, Aug. 13, 2010
-- 12 Noon, Holy Trinity, Dubuque -- "Rally Sunday and Fall Curriculum"
Includes a light lunch. Bring 20 copies of items to share.

   
       
 

Mission Statement:
The Home Life Work Group supports congregations in the care of each baptized child of God, both children and adult, who seek to live out their faith in their daily lives.

During the last 12 months:

  • Hosted a Synod Assembly workshop and display

  • Co-sponsored "Passing on the Vibrant Faith" conference in Dubuque

  • Sponsored a networking meeting for Christian educators

Youth & Family Ministry Resources

Our new Youth & Family Ministry Resources page shares ideas, activities and other learning resources to help pass on the faith to children and families. The current theme features Lent & Easter ideas shared at the Jan. 14 Swap Meet:

Visit the site to find creative ideas from Sunday school teachers, youth and family ministers, pastors, parents and others from Northeast Iowa and beyond. And, you can share your own ideas and experiences with others!
