In the wake of the July 28 fire that destroyed much of the Agri Star Meat & Poultry processing plant in Postville, faith-based organizations and community partners have mobilized to support hundreds of workers and their families facing uncertainty and loss of income. The Northeastern Iowa Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is coordinating relief efforts in partnership with St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. Donations received through the synod are being used to provide food, household supplies, hygiene products, rent and utility assistance, caregiver support, and other necessities identified by local congregational and community leaders. The synod has emphasized that 100% of donated funds will go directly to those impacted by the fire.
